Winning the SPOOFDANCE Festival

In September i came across a competition called Spoodance festival. The festival is about creating a commercial for a fake product that has been given to you. They provide you with the logos/graphics and a music theme of the product and you must create a 15 second commercial that has the 80’s vibe. I only found about the festival 2 days before the deadline, that was plenty of time, so I decide to do it! I called my friend and an actor, Seigfred Perolino and he got excited and he wanted to help. The first day we were watching a lot of 80s commercials trying to see the style, the camera movement, the acting and the editing that they were doing back in the 80’s. After a lot of research, we came up with the idea for the commercial and we start planing it. We we printed some labels to create the fake product, we found location, one more actor and we were ready to shoot. The next day we shot the commercial and put everything together and sent it to the festival.

It was really nice and fast pace test for us. Of course if we had more time until the deadline we could have done much better work, but it’s not about making the perfect video, it’s about getting your crew/friends together and research, plan, shoot and have fun. Tell a story that you think it’s great. Don’t try to make it perfect, just keep filming and practising. Because everytime you film something or challenge yourself you learn something new so you can apply it to the next project.
